Client: Large Chemical Company

Project Description: B-CAD was contracted to scan (300,000) Microfilm drawings, mounted on aperture cards. These drawings were typically "D" & "E" sizes, depicting mostly building related Architectural & Engineering Design and As-Built Documents. With an aggressive schedule of only (4) months, B-CAD, purchased (3) microfilm scanners and operated them (24) hours a day to complete the project. B-CAD proved overall quality and schedule in a small pilot test, involving a few hundred drawings, selected at random, by the client. The project was completed on time and within the budget.

This project required a very detailed and intensive production QC process as the following outline describes:

Microfilm drawings were scanned using high-end production scanners & software.
The drawing automatically displayed as it was scanned, which allowed the operator to make adjustments and accept or reject the scan.
When the scan was accepted, the software automatically zoomed in on the titleblock, where the drawing # was displayed and the operator entered it as an attribute.
The drawing was accepted again and automatically went to the next operators monitor who conducted post processing, including cropping, aligning, etc.
A final QC of every image was conducted and, if approved, the file was sent to the "completed" directory. A directory print out of all the scanned files were compared to the original inventory list to assure all were completed.
